Arsenal expect defender Bacary Sagna to be out until December due to an ankle injury.

The France international was stretchered off in the Gunners' 2-0 home defeat by Aston Villa on Saturday and manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed he is set for a spell on the sidelines.

"Yes, it is serious," said Wenger on the club's official website. "He will be out for a few weeks, he has an injured ankle."

Sagna will miss France's friendly against Uruguay in Paris on Wednesday and should also be absent for Arsenal's Premier League trips to Manchester City and Chelsea.

The 25-year-old could also miss the Carling Cup quarter-final against Burnley on 2nd December.
