Emmanuel Adebayor has backed his 'best mate' Emmanuel Eboue to put his disappointing weekend firmly behind him.

The Arsenal midfielder endured a torrid time against Wigan on Saturday, finding himself jeered by the Emirates Stadium faithful.

A lacklustre showing following his introduction as a first half substitute also saw him suffer the indignity of being hauled off himself moments from the end of the Gunners' 1 -0 win.

A number of sloppy touches saw the crowd quickly turn on the Ivorian and before long terrace taunts were raining down upon the 25-year-old.

He has since received the full backing of his manager Arsene Wenger and a number of his team-mates, with Adebayor the latest to offer his support.

Stronger

"We all fight together and I feel sorry for Emmanuel Eboue," the Togolese striker told the club's official website.

"He is one of my best mates.

"The fans booed him. However, that is football.

"He is going to be back stronger than ever.

"We are all sad for him because he has been out for more than a month with an injury and it was his first game back, so it was a bit difficult for him.

"But we are all going to talk to him and hopefully he will be back soon."

Fight

Despite the weekend success being marred by the actions of a frustrated minority, the victory helped to keep the Gunners alive in the Premier League title race.

With only eight points separating them from league leaders Liverpool, Adebayor believes the race for top-flight glory is far from finished.

"We have to fight as a team and that is how we are going to try to achieve something this season," he said.

"To be champions, you need to [be able to] win every single game.

"We are eight points behind first place and now we just have to control ourselves, not to worry about whether we play with elegance or not.

"The most important thing is not the way we play, it is what we are going to achieve.

"Now we have to forget about how we are going to dribble, how many passes we are going to make - the most important thing is to get the ball in the back of the net and that is it."
