Cesc Fabregas has admitted that it is unrealistic for Arsenal to think about winning the Premier League this season.

The Gunners have slipped further off the pace following a run of four consecutive draws and they are now 17 points behind leaders Manchester United.

Arsenal are also six points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa with a lot of work to do to secure UEFA Champions League qualification for next season.

Fabregas, who could return to action next month following a serious knee injury, believes Arsene Wenger's men must concentrate on overhauling Martin O'Neill's side.

"It's not realistic to look at the league title now," the Spanish midfielder told the Evening Standard.

Intelligent

"You can never say never but we would not be intelligent to be looking right to the top of the league.

"To be intelligent now is to go game by game and think about who is directly in front of us."

Fabregas realises that Arsenal must stop drawing so many games if they are to climb above Villa.

He said: "Now we have to make sure we put a run of wins together and don't lose more points.

"Aston Villa will drop points, of that I am sure, and that's why we need to be ready to capitalise at the right time."
