Adebayor: Seals City switch
I have come here to make history for this club and those supporters.
Adebayor on City switch
Quotes of the week
Manchester City have completed the signing of Arsenal's Emmanuel Adebayor on a five-year contract.
The fee for the Togo international has not been disclosed, although the 25-year-old is believed to have cost City in the region of £25million.
Adebayor was omitted from the Arsenal squad which tackled Barnet on Saturday as he was in Manchester putting the final touches on his five-year contact.
The former Monaco man, who joined Arsenal in 2006, has been moved by the reception received by fans and is looking forward to making history at Eastlands.
"It made me feel really welcome and special and I can't wait to play for City's fans and show them what I can do," he told City's official website.
"I was born to play football and that is what I want to do. I have come here to make history for this club and those supporters. It what the chairman and the manager told me that they want too and I can't wait to get started."
Manager Mark Hughes has signed some of the world's finest strikers this summer with Adebayor joining the likes of Carlos Tevez and Roque Santa Cruz in joining City.
Although Hughes has a plethora of attacking options he is delighted to have acquired Adebayor's signature, stating he will 'greatly enhance' City's ability to compete with the big four.
"Emmanuel has been one of the top forwards in the Premier League since he arrived from France and we are delighted he has agreed to come and join us," he declared.
"Along with the other signings we have made in the last two windows he will greatly enhance our ability to compete with the top sides.
"His arrival is another clear indication that we are determined to augment the players we have here with the best of international talent.
"He adds vital balance and power to our attack. He has everything a top forward needs. He is versatile, powerful, quick and agile on the ball.
"I am looking forward to working with him as are the rest of the staff. He will definitely add a new dimension to our play. I have been a great admirer for a long time."

WELL DONE ADE!!, you've left a bunch of haters for a group of fans who will appreciate your talent, WELL DONE, I Say!! As for Arsenal, what is £25million in the current market ? You sell a 30 goal a season player to replace him with who? ARSENAL , THE FEEDER TEAM OF THE BIG TEAMS....and that includes Man City, from now on. WELL DONE ADE, LIFE IS TOO SHORT TO BE HOUNDED BY A BUNCH OF HATING FANS.

It makes no sense to waste so much money on players that you dont really need. They already have enough and more strikers but they had to sign one more. With a bad attitude at that. Good piece of business by Arsenal. The only thing that this has done is further inflate the already skyrocketing market.

I like the way Arsenal fans are very loyal to Wenger, when really he has not won anything in the last 4-5 seasons. Let's be honest last season really showed Arsenal's true colours when they were destroyed in the champions league semi-finals. Man U were not really at thier best but Arsenal did not have the power to stand up agianst the big boys...whilst at the the same time they do not have a true leader to drive the team forward. Fabragas a leader?...Saying that i believe that it is good to keep faith in a manager and to keep consistenecy in a club which i would like to see at chelsea. But i think Wenger's time is up, he has had a lot of time and has not produce trophies.

A bad signing for City, they are paying over the odds for a clumsy striker witha a bad attitude. But think tevez is a very good signing. I still don't think that next year City will contend for the top four mainly due to thier lack of experience and quality in defence. And City will NOT sign Terry...There is no real benefit for terry leaving except for money, but he is already earning 150,00 grand a week!

25million for a player who had one good season?? no way is he worth 25million, obviously its not adebayors fault tha they paid tha for him cos its the owners of the clubs these dayss who are paying pathetic money for players who aint gr8, i mean, everton want bout 26 million for jolean lesscott ?? no chance! hes a decent playa yhh buh where did they get 26 mill from ? ! as much as i loved tevez's work rate, i do rate berbatov betta, hes goh betta touch betta skill betta passer betta finisher, sooo man city hav paid 26 million for a playa, who, runs alot and is a good playa buh agen hes not worth tha amount! its nuffin to do wiv jelousy cos i stil believe the top 4 will be the same agen this season i also think villa, everton and spurs will finish above man city cos there squads hav been 2geva a while and are stable and dnt hav to many prema-donnas all tryin to steal the limelight, theres only one team in manchester, manchester united ! 4 in a row this year and owen who we goh on a free will score more than santa cruz (overpriced!) tevez (overpriced!) and adebayor (overpriced!) :D

Manchester City can spend whatever money they want to buy whatever players they want, but it will never change the fact that Manchester City is a rotten, second-rate club. Its a nasty fluke that Manchester City retains its place in the Premier League. Football fans should look to genuine class, which is represented by,primarily, Manchester United, and then Chelsea and Arsenal. There is no substitute for inherant quality.

I am now convinced that all these players are joining Man City for money. i would have thought that all these players who have joined City would have wanted to play top flight football this 2009/10 season because the world cup is next year. Yes the premire league is the best league in the world and it is a good physical league and every game is tough but that does not compensate to playing in the champions league and playing against the best players and teams in Europe or even the world.

If they have the money they should be able to do what they want with it... and although its thier own money it seems to ruin the game, football is about passion for the game and the will to win... not about waiting for your weekly paycheck of 150 grand coming in, Also i think Adebayor is a bag signing for city (who already have three good strikers in robinho, tevez and bellamy). Adebayor had one good season now thinks he is up there when in my eyes he is still a very average player

I think its brilliant man City are going for all these strikers. Theyre obviously contemplating playing total attacking football next season with the likes of Robinho, Tevez, Cruz, Bojinov, Bellamy, Adebayor, Benjani, Caicedo, Evans all first team forwards!!! I personally hope they do land Terry, should make for an interesting season, and i hope it proves again the the Premier League, is the number one in the world.

Adebayor is a player who blows hot and cold , he has got the ability to put defences under pressure but never made any real impact when playing against the big clubs. 25million is a good sale for arsenal. arsenal need one more defender and a defensive midfielder , arshavin or walcott can be used up front, and in my opinion would score more than adebayor. yaya toure would be a extremely good signing to give that extra bit of backbone which arsenal need to be the best again.

City Fans get real. Can you not see what's happening? Average goalkeeper, no defence, where's the midfield? and 8 strikers. Formation for for 2009/10 1 1 1 8. I like what City are trying to achive and I wish you well, but get realistic, There is no spine to your team. If I was a city fan I would rather see 2 x £30million players like Vidic Carvelho type player, £10£15million on a TOP keeper, £60 million on quality midfield Alonso Mascherano Young type players. And 2 x £30m strikers Tevez + Santa. You need a spine to your team which takes a few seasons to establish. I'd love to see City knock UTD down a peg or two, but on current transfers your going to be no more than UTD's entertainment in the local derbys and mocking stakes.... Champions League don't make me laugh.

hmm, well, with the signing of Adebayor , I wonder if Tevez will be back to starting regularly from the bench, again? Also, I hope Sparky is really really good at man mangement :-)

Good riddance..! After one 'good' season (where Arsenal still went trophyless...) he thinks he is world class ? Is this the same lazy, lacklustre & disinterested player I witnessed playing for Arsenal last year ? Don't get me wrong - I'm not bitter - I'm just glad our problem is now City's problem. Still can't believe they paid £25m for him..!! What a deal & well done Wenger..!! You managed to pull the wool over Hughes eyes..!!!

I'm a Man Utd fan and i'm laughing right now. City have got all the money in the world and yet they are still making 2nd class signings.Santa Cruz is the biggest waste of £18m EVER! Adebayour is again another very over-rated player. Arsenal fans will be pleased they got £25m for him when if he doesn't get his own way, he sulks. I dont see him sticking around at City long as he wont be 1st choice there, Robinho is still by far the best striker they have, follwed 2ndly by Carlos Tevez. Gareth Barry, again £12m for a player who is 2nd string. They need to be buying much better players than that if they are to seriously consider challenging for the title. There defence is in diar need of improvement, players like Phillip Mexes and John Terry would help to improve the promising talents of Micah Richards and Nedum Onuah.

Good riddance Adebayor. I know arsene will make the right decision with 25 million and replace him with a player who's first thought when he crosses the touchline is: I want to play well for Arsenal Football Club, not: I think i'm the best in the world and i should have my wages trebled. And to you City fans, you money won't guarantee silverware, i still put the big 4, Villa and maybe Everton in front of you for the prem.
