Nicklas Bendtner accepts that he will need to score more goals if he is to be regarded as one of the world's greatest strikers.

Bendtner has become an increasingly important member of the Arsenal side over the last couple of seasons and he signed a new long-term contract last week.

Arsene Wenger appreciates his overall contribution but the Dane realises that he must improve on a modest goalscoring record.

The 21-year-old is confident he will be more prolific this season and aims to find the target at least 20 times.

"In order to qualify as one of the world's greatest attackers, then you are judged on the number of goals you score," Bendtner told Politiken.

"You could have all the characteristics but if you don't score people can say "Yes, he knows all the stuff but he has just scored 10 goals in 40 games.'

"Of course that's not a good record. I hope to see that I score 20-25 goals in 40 games."

If Bendtner does not reach his goals target, he would like to compensate in another way.

He added: "If I get a Premier League season where I score 10 times and have 30 assists, I think that would be OK as well."
