Robin van Persie is hoping Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger will alter his thinking ahead of their Carling Cup quarter-final clash with Manchester City.

Wenger is resolute in his approach to the League Cup in that he allows his young players to play throughout the competition - no matter how far they get.

But Van Persie is hoping that against City he will be given the chance to play.

The two clubs were involved in a highly-charged league clash earlier this season which saw City triumph 4-2 on home soil.

The game was remembered for Emmanuel Adebayor scoring against his old club and running the full length of the pitch to celebrate in front of the Arsenal fans, whilst the Togo striker also stamped on Van Persie - for which he received a ban.

Now Van Persie is hoping he will get the chance to play at Eastlands at the start of December.

"I want to play in that one. I'd love to play. If the boss decides to let me play, I'm happy," said Van Persie.

"It will be a good game because Man City have a good side.

"If we can find the right mix - like we did in the last round against Liverpool we've a big chance of winning."
