Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen feels the club are delivering a warning message to their rivals.

The Gunners are currently sat in second, going ahead of Manchester United over the weekend.

Arsenal ran out 4-1 winners at Wolves, as United stumbled to a 1-0 defeat at league leaders Chelsea.

And despite being five points adrift of Chelsea, Vermaelen now feels Arsenal are starting to worry their title rivals.

"If we look at the rankings, we are second and it is a message to other teams that we are involved in the race to be champions," Vermaelen told Arsenal's official website.

"It is good that we have had a good series of games.

"It is important to continue and stay focused on every game because there are a lot of important games."
