Gerrard: Targeting Gunners
Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard insists the Reds want to overtake Arsenal this season and finish in the Premier League's top three.
The Merseysiders currently occupy fourth spot in the table as they try and secure a place in the UEFA Champions League next term, and are just five points behind the Gunners.
Arsenal go into Wednesday night's game at Emirates Stadium on the back of successive defeats against Manchester United and Chelsea.
While manager Arsene Wenger is still adamant that his side can challenge for the title this season, Gerrard is keen to cut the gap between the teams to just two points.
"I'm sure Arsenal will be a bit of a wounded animal on Wednesday," he said.
"It's a massive game for us and the target is to try to get a result where we can push on and try to get third place.
"We're just taking each game as it comes. Obviously at the end of the season our target is a top-four finish but if Arsenal give us any sniff of catching them then we want to grab it and hopefully that will be on Wednesday night."
Prior to the United and Chelsea defeats Arsenal had gone 10 games unbeaten in the league, and Gerrard is keen to get on top of the North Londoners and put them under pressure.
"We've certainly got to do what Manchester United and Chelsea have done to them, which is try to give them very little space and hit them on the counter-attack," he added.
"Everyone knows that if you give Arsenal time and space they will absolutely crucify you.
"We're not playing terrifically well to be honest. The last few performances have been more about being solid defensively and nicking important goals.
"We can certainly play better."

Looking at the fixtures coming up I think it is very unlikely that Liverpool will overtake Arsenal in the standings. Even though Aresenal have lost their last two games they haven't played that badly. Liverpool on the other hand have not played well at all for most of the season and even on Saturday against Everton did not play that well, of course it wasn't easy playing with 10 men. Liverpool need to worry more about Manchester City, Spurs and Villa as they are more likely to overtake Liverpool than Liverpool are of overtaking Arsenal.

Yet another deluded comment from the Anfield Camp. I personally cant see Liverpool in the top 5 this season. Villa, Spurs and Man City are playing much better and think Gerrard is holding onto something that simply isnt going to happen. If Arsenal dont take third it will be Man City in my opinion, not Liverpool.

Still think Arsenal and Man city will take third and fourth places......The fact is the standard of play from Liverpool just doesn't deserve a top-four finish......Sorry Reds, but I think you lot realise that aswell....
