Carlos Vela has admitted that performing well at the World Cup could 'open many doors', but he is not thinking about his club future as he stays focused on Mexico.

The Arsenal forward has shown glimpses of his talent at Emirates Stadium, including a sublime goal against Fulham on the final day of the Premier League season.

But he has had few opportunities to impress and, despite signing a new long-term contract in December, appears to have fallen further down the pecking order after Marouane Chamakh was signed from Bordeaux.

Vela concedes that it was a frustrating campaign for him personally but he is now raring to go ahead of the World Cup in South Africa.

And the 21-year-old is fully aware that he could press his claims for more regular inclusion at Arsenal with a good tournament or even attract interest from elsewhere.

"It was difficult. I didn't have many chances when I was fit," Vela said in The Sun.

"Then, injuries didn't allow me to be in good form. But I still have time to get ready for the World Cup.

"I'm only concentrating on playing for Mexico and having a good World Cup.

"Having a good World Cup can open many doors. If not at Arsenal, we'll see where."

Fabregas

One player who could be leaving the Gunners this summer is Cesc Fabregas, with the Spanish midfielder having reportedly told club bosses that he is keen to join Barcelona.

Barca have yet to make a formal offer but Vela can understand why his team-mate would want to return home after an unsuccessful stint with Arsenal in terms of silverware.

"He will be going back to his country and it is good for him," Vela said in the Daily Express.

"It is difficult for big players, they want to win trophies and play in games like the Champions League final. I'm sure he's disappointed we have not won anything for five years.

"Of course it will be sad to see Cesc join Barcelona. He is the star of the Arsenal team and it is better to have him. But it is a decision for Cesc."

England surprise

Turning his attention back to Mexico, Vela voiced his satisfaction with the performance against England at Wembley on Monday night.

Fabio Capello's men eventually ran out 3-1 winners but Mexico impressed with their fluent football and Vela was surprised by how many chances his team were able to create.

"It was very strange. Normally England are very strong in defence," he said.

"Mexico played some fantastic football in the first half. Unfortunately, England have some fantastic players and they were very dangerous."

Looking ahead to the next few weeks, Vela added: "I'm very excited. It is a dream to play in the World Cup. It is what you work towards every day."
