Arshavin targets title

Arsenal attacker Andrey Arshavin believes the development of the club's young players gives them an excellent chance of Premier League glory this season.

The 29-year-old Russia international was on the scoresheet as the Gunners thrashed top-flight new boys Blackpool 6-0 at the weekend, giving them one win and a draw from their opening two games.

Arsene Wenger's men finished third in the table last term, and after a title push for much of the campaign, they faded at the last.

But Arshavin is confident his side can achieve success now that the younger stars at the Emirates are coming into their own.

"I think all the young players have become, not old, but they have experience now," he told Sky Sports News HD.

"Arsene works with them for a long time and that's why he knows them better and he knows what to expect during the season from the players.

"It gives me belief that we can get something this year."

Improvement

One thing Arshavin is hoping to improve on is the results against the big teams in the division, with both Chelsea and Manchester United comfortably beating Arsenal on their home patch last season.

He added: "My opinion is, if you look at the points on last season's table, we were close, but then we met Chelsea and Man Utd and they beat us very easily.

"I would like to see this season that we will manage to fight against big teams."

The diminutive playmaker was also pleased to see midfield maestro Cesc Fabregas remain at the club after his protracted move to Barcelona never materialised.

"I think for everyone in Arsenal it was very good news that he stays with us. Everyone is happy because he is our best player," he remarked.

"I did not follow the situation because every day there was new information in the newspapers, but he is with us and everyone is happy he stays with us."

On in-form Theo Walcott, who scored a hat-trick at the weekend, he added: "With his quality, he must play like this every game and we expect him to play like this.

"I think he will help and if he scores in every game we will win [the Premier League] for sure."
