Arsenal have sent new recruit Joel Campbell on loan to Lorient, while Gilles Sunu has returned to the French outfit on a permanent deal.

The Gunners landed Costa Rica international Campbell earlier in the summer following a protracted chase.

They believe a spell in Ligue 1 will aid his development and prepare him for life in the Premier League.

The 19-year-old will spend the remainder of the 2011/12 campaign with Lorient.

Moving on

Meanwhile, Arsenal have confirmed that Sunu has linked up with the French side for a second time.

He took in a loan spell at Lorient in 2010/11 and has now returned to the club on a full-time basis.

The 20-year-old has failed to force his way into the first-team set-up at the Emirates and has been deemed surplus to requirements.

A statement released by the Gunners on their official website read: "Everyone at Arsenal Football Club would like to wish both Campbell and Sunu well in Northern France, and thank Gilles for his contribution to the club."
