New Everton striker Louis Saha offered to waive his wages at Goodison Park until he was back in action.

The France international ended four injury-hit years at Old Trafford on transfer deadline day when he moved to Merseyside on a two-year deal.

Saha is still recovering from a cartilage problem and was so eager for the move to go through that he told the Toffees he was prepared not to be paid until he featured in a blue shirt.

But David Moyes turned down the gesture and is now hoping the former Fulham forward can help fire his side out of their early-season woes once he is back to full fitness.

Mentality

Saha said: "It was something I did offer but, in the end, it didn't happen.

"I'd had a few setbacks and I made the offer because that is my type of mentality.

"I want to be able to look at myself in the mirror.

"I could have been selfish but it wouldn't have been right."
