Standard Liege coach Laszlo Boloni wants his side to be respected across Europe by beating Everton to reach the group stages of the Uefa Cup.

The Belgian champions start Thursday night's first-round second leg as favourites to progress after drawing 2-2 at Goodison Park a fortnight ago.

And Boloni, whose side again top their domestic league after beating big rivals Anderlecht last weekend, is desperate to go through to put Liege on a bigger stage.

"It is the most important game of the season," said the Romanian.

"If somebody had given me a choice last week of beating Anderlecht or Everton, I would have taken Everton.

Respected

"The reason is I want Standard Liege to become a feared team across Europe, a team to be respected.

"So we have to win this game and qualify. It is important for the whole of Liege, the city, the fans, the club."

Liege boast the advantage of two away goals but will not look to shut up shop at the Stade Maurice Dufrasne.

"I'm not going to go into this game looking for a 0-0," Boloni added.

"We have to score to give us greater confidence, so we will push forward and do what we can to put Everton under pressure."
