Moyes: Toffees too nervous
David Moyes is disappointed Everton squandered a two-goal lead at home to crisis club Newcastle United on Sunday.
The Magpies looked dead and buried at Goodison Park courtesy of goals from Mikel Arteta and Marouane Fellaini inside the opening 35 minutes.
However, Newcastle pulled one back on the stroke of half-time through defender Steven Taylor and Moyes felt this goal was crucial in the outcome.
The former Preston man was his troops to snuff out Newcastle's restored confidence and kill them off with a third, but it was Damien Duff's goal that arrived next.
"We were two-nil up and cruising," he told Sky Sports.
"I was just about go in at half time and deliver a speech saying let's see if we can score a couple more goals in the second half.
"Instead it's nervousness and anxiety because we've not won at home. Newcastle get the goal back and not only that we go and concede another one a few minutes into the second half. That part of it wasn't good.
"I said to them how important the next goal was and if we can get the next one we could go on and win it. We were disappointed because we played well in the first half. To go and concede the goal was criminal.
"We gave the first one away on the half way line when we should have kept possession. It was poor. We need to get it out the system and try and move on."
Everton have struggled so far at home in the league, but Moyes is confident they will turn things around and emerge with a positive record at Goodison when the season is done and dusted.
"There were signs we were playing better today. If something goes against you it can easily knock you," he continued.
"Overall our record at Goodison is fantastic. I can tell you that before the end of the season we'll win a lot more than we lose."
