Everton boss David Moyes has revealed James Vaughan's return to action has been delayed due to an aborted knee operation.

Vaughan had been scheduled for a knee operation in Colorado on Wednesday, but the 20-year-old striker was forced to return to Merseyside without having gone under the knife, as Dr Richard Steadman was unable to perform the surgery.

Steadman suffered a broken arm in a skiing accident and this has prompted Vaughan to put his operation on hold.

"He's on his way back without having had the op," Moyes told the Daily Star. "Obviously there is the option to have it done here.

"But he chose to go to Dr Steadman because he trusts him after the last operation.

"Unfortunately Dr Steadman has had a complication. It's definitely going to have an impact on how long he is going to be out.

"At the moment we have not got an idea when the operation will be done."
