Meite nears Bolton move

Marseille defender Abdoulaye Meite is thought to be closing on a switch to Bolton Wanderers.

According to reports in France and England, the Ivory Coast international will pen a contract with The Trotters after passing a medical.

The 25-year-old has long been a target for Bolton boss Sam Allardyce, who until now had been unable to strike a deal for the stopper.

The move to The Reebok Stadium looked in jeopardy when Meite's performances in the World Cup attracted the interest of Stuttgart, but the Ivorian rejected the Bundesliga outfit's advances.

Meite is rumoured to be in Bolton discussing terms and undergoing a medical and, if all goes to plan, should be unveiled as Allardyce's second signing of the summer in the coming days.

Bolton are expected to pay around ‚é¼2 million (£1.4 million) for the powerful centre back.
