Megson: Staying positive

Gary Megson is staying positive Bolton Wanderers can avoid the drop despite being held to a goalless draw by Manchester City.

The Trotters could have moved outside the bottom three with success against Sven Goran Eriksson's side, but were unable to make the breakthrough.

Megson could not fault the effort and endeavour from his side against City and looked at the point as one gained on Birmingham and Fulham rather than two points dropped.

"We certainly couldn't try any harder. We couldn't have put any more effort in," he told Sky Sports. "We could have passed the ball a bit better.

Positive

"We've had a lot of efforts on City's goal. There are a lot of things to be positive about. Where we are this season it's about the points, so from that point of view it's disappointing.

"We tend to be on top in a game and not take it. Whilst you've not scored you get a breakaway against us and it's happened a few times today.

"In terms of territorial advantage we were way up on the opposition. It's two points lost because of the way the game went, but we've gained a point on Birmingham and Fulham.

"What we've got to try and do is finish outside the bottom three. We've got to come up with one or two results that are a surprise to people."
