Bolton have completed the signing of midfielder Fabrice Muamba from Birmingham.

Alex McLeish had been hoping to keep Muamba at St Andrews following Birmingham's relegation from the Premier League.

However, the England Under-21 international has now moved to make sure that he stays in the top flight after impressing Bolton boss Gary Megson last season.

Wigan had also been linked with Muamba but Bolton have struck a deal with Blues worth over £5million.

Muamba arrives at the Reebok Stadium on a four-year deal and Megson is delighted to have secured his services.

"Fabrice is a tough-tackling central midfielder who has a good grounding with the Arsenal youth setup," Megson told Bolton's official website.

"He's played in the Premier League with Birmingham City and he'll be a tremendous asset to Bolton Wanderers over the coming years."

Muamba began his playing career at Arsenal before switching to Birmingham, initially on loan, in 2006.
