Reading midfielder Marek Matejovsky is delighted Steve Coppell has decided to stay on as manager at the Madejski Stadium.

Coppell's future at Reading had been the subject of speculation after the club suffered relegation on the last day of the season.

However, Coppell confirmed last week he was staying on as manager and has set his sights on helping the team win promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

Matejovsky says he expects to stay at Reading next season and admits Coppell's decision to stay will play a big part in his future

"I have a contract at Reading and I count on returning there," Matejovsky told Pravo.

"I have been watching news on the internet to know if they are going to sell some players, if coach Coppell will stay.

"I read that he would continue for which I am glad as he brought me into the club and he knows me well."

Disappointed

Matejovsky admits he is still shocked Reading ended up going down, but he believes he has improved during his short time at the club.

"It was tough when it was fresh, I tried to get to the Czech Republic as soon as possible, to be with my family, with my friends and could come to some different thoughts," added Matejovsky.

"But I am still disappointed, I did not expect that at all.

"I have learned to play football in a high tempo. I had to do my maximum in every training session to at least be nominated for the games.

"The competition is big and I am glad that I have had the chance to play so many games in the Premier League.

"It has definitely helped me and I hope I will be a little bit better."
