Sodje: Likely to move on

Steve Coppell has told Sam Sodje that it will be in the defender's 'best interests' to leave Reading.

Sodje is in the final year of his contract at the Madejski Stadium and spent last season on loan at Charlton Athletic.

He has also been left out of Reading's squad for the pre-season trip to Sweden and Royals boss Coppell admits Sodje's first-team chances for the coming season are slim.

"I have said to Sam at the moment, given the senior players we have here, he is down the list," Coppell told the Evening Post.

Common sense

"Just out of common sense I have senior players who I will give priority to in pre-season and I told him I would not be taking him to Sweden with us and perhaps, if he can find himself a deal elsewhere, it could be in his best interests.

"I am not bombing him out, but I have just made him aware that if he stays then there are quite a few ahead of him.

"Centre-half is probably my healthiest position."
