Reading midfielder Marek Matejovsky has returned to full training and is set to play for the Royals reserves on Wednesday.

Manager Steve Coppell has been without the Czech Republic international since he sustained an ankle ligament injury on the opening day of the season against Nottingham Forest.

But Matejovsky is now close to his comeback and he should continue to build fitness in an outing for the Royals' second XI at Brighton.

"He has joined in and trained with the rest now, and the ankle looks fine. He will almost certainly play tomorrow," Coppell told Get Reading on Tuesday.

"It is a boost for us as we have players coming back now."

Murty wait

Coppell has also revealed that Michael Duberry, who has been sidelined with a calf strain, is also close to training with the first team.

But captain Graeme Murty, another calf injury victim, will not be rushed back to fitness.

"Doobs is very close now and should join in training later this week," Coppell continued.

"Murts' (recovery) is just amazingly slow and we can't understand it really. We just have to make sure that when he does come back that he's properly ready.

"It is just a calf strain, though, nothing serious. It's like a scab - you have to make sure it's properly healed otherwise you pick at it and it never heals."
