Marek Matejovsky insists he has no desire to leave Reading during the January transfer window.

The Czech Republic international has struggled to break into the Royals' first-team plans this season after picking up an ankle ligament injury on the opening day of the season.

He has been restricted to just four appearances this term as a result, but has been overlooked completely in recent weeks.

Matejovsky accepts that with the club riding high in the Championship boss Steve Coppell is unlikely to make too many changes, but hopes he will get an opportunity to prove his worth in the near future.

Rushed

"It is because the team has been doing well and coach Coppell has no reason to change anything," the combative midfielder told Denik Sport when questioned on the reasons behind his recent snub.

"Maybe he is a bit afraid that I will pick up another injury, as they thought I was rushed back over the summer.

"Maybe he wants me to toughen up in training and reserve teams before I start for the first-team. Naturally, though, I would like to play for the first-team.

"If I don't play in a match at all, then I am frustrated. But I cannot get angry with the coach for not changing a successful side. I just have to remind him of my qualities."

Rumours

Inevitably, Matejovsky's lack of action has seen him linked with a move away from the Madejski Stadium.

However, the 26-year-old claims he has no interest in looking elsewhere and is determined to fight for his place at Reading.

"It is too early to say what will happen," he added.

"My main goal is to become a regular at Reading again. I don't have anything else on my mind right now."

Promotion

Matejovsky is also confident that the Royals, who currently sit third in the second tier, can bounce back into the Premier League at the first time of asking.

"I believe we will make it," he said.

"I don't even think about the possibility of us not being promoted.

"We have been playing well, are on a fine run and have outplayed most of the teams we have faced."
