Reading have revealed Leroy Lita has rejected a possible move to Championship rivals Sheffield United.

Sheffield United revealed earlier on Tuesday that they had agreed a fee with Reading for the striker as they seek a replacement for James Beattie.

However, United have been rebuffed in their attempts to lure Lita to Bramall Lane with the player pledging to stay at the Madejski Stadium.

Reading director of football Nick Hammond admitted they were delighted that Lita had decided to stay put.

"We did receive a private offer from Sheffield United for Leroy Lita last week," Hammond told the club's official website.

"We always try to be open with our players regarding bids officially lodged by other clubs, so it was put to Leroy.

"However we were very pleased that Leroy firmly stated his desire to stay at Reading, and he will not be joining Sheffield United."
