Ian Harte is delighted to have stepped up into the Championship with Reading and is ready to give his all.

The Irish defender joined the Royals from League One side Carlisle as the transfer window drew to a close.

He admits the speed at which a deal was rushed through came as a welcome surprise, but feels he has now found his feet at the Madejski Stadium.

Harte is looking forward to helping Reading mount a promotion push, as he insists that his desire to be successful has not diminished down the years.

Interest

"The first I heard of the interest was on Saturday evening, so it happened pretty quick with the window closing," he told the club's official website on his late summer switch.

"The manager (Brian McDermott) wanted to know if I was interested in a move and, of course, I was. I've had a decent career so far, but I'm still very hungry.

"I've really enjoyed my time up at Carlisle - the people that run the club there have been very good to me. It's nice that they've let me go and given me the chance to come to a fantastic club like Reading.

"Hopefully, with a few experienced heads here now and a good mix in the squad, we will be able to gel as a team and get the results that we need."
