Permit problems for Pompey deal

Portsmouth's attempts to sign Achille Emana have been hit by work permit problems.

Portsmouth's attempts to sign Cameroon international Achille Emana have reportedly been scuppered by a failure to obtain a work permit.

The South Coast side were close to securing a £2.4 million deal for the Toulouse star, but their interest somewhat cooled and now their pursuit has seemingly been dealt a final blow.

Pompey boss Harry Redknapp had admitted holding an interest in Emana, but he will now turn his attention to other targets after the snub from the Home Office.

The news will also have repercussions for Toulouse as they will now be unable to finance a deal for Santos star Fabinho who had been lined up as a replacement for Emana.

Rennes may yet come in for the midfielder, but one player more likely to be shown the exit is striker Benjamin Psaume who has been linked with a number of lower league sides.
