Ashdown out for six weeks

Portsmouth goalkeeper Jamie Ashdown has undergone surgery on his broken thumb.

The 25-year-old, who picked up the injury catching a ball in training on Monday, is likely to be out of action for six weeks.

"Jamie broke the thumb yesterday in training and had the operation last night, which went smoothly," confirmed physio Gary Sadler.

The news will come as a bitter blow to Pompey boss Harry Redknapp, who is already short of goalkeeping options.

Apart from regular number one Dean Kiely, the only other keepers at the club are untried youngsters Nick Jordan and Asmir Begovic.

Redknapp will now have to step up his search for goalkeeping cover.
