Portsmouth are reportedly close to signing South Korean striker Cho Jae-jin.

According to Korean news wire Sports Chosun, the 26 year-old is set to talk to Portsmouth officials in the next few days after both parties agreed on a transfer fee.

With John Utaka and Nwankwo Kanu away on international duty at the African Cup of Nations this month, manager Harry Redknapp is keen to bolster his striking options and sees Cho as the ideal replacement.

Reports indicate the former Shimizu S-Pulse star is seeking a long-term contract, but Redknapp may prefer a short-term deal with an option for the player to stay at Fratton Park if he impresses.

Cho was widely tipped to join Pompey's Premiership rivals Newcastle United this transfer window, but the Magpies decided to pull out of the deal for undisclosed reasons.
