Skysports.com can reveal that Portsmouth have won the race for Queens Park Rangers' highly-rated goalkeeper Liam O'Brien.

The 16-year-old has been chased by a string of Premier League clubs, but has opted for a move to Fratton Park.

In recent weeks, O'Brien has been on trial at Arsenal and Manchester United, in addition to training with Pompey.

The Premier League's top two, along with Aston Villa, Manchester City, Newcastle United and Sunderland are all understood to have made offers.

But having assessed his options, the promising shot-stopper has agreed to link up with Harry Redknapp's side on the South Coast.

O'Brien has accepted a deal until the end of the season and will sign a three-year professional contract when he turns 17.

Portsmouth have paid an undisclosed sum to QPR in order to secure the signature of the coveted keeper.
