Portsmouth chief executive Peter Storrie says if the club are to strengthen this summer they will do so in the coming weeks.

Manager Harry Redknapp has already been busy bolstering his side this close season with the arrivals of Glen Little and Ben Sahar on a six-month loan from Chelsea.

With Pompey preparing for Uefa Cup football next term Storrie insists the South Coast side will need to bolster if they are to seriously compete in Europe and on the domestic front.

Storrie has hinted the club could well look abroad for reinforcements with the price of British players significantly higher than those on the foreign transfer market.

New few weeks

"It's a holiday period at the moment but most things will happen in the next few weeks," Storrie told the club's official website.

"There could be a lot of instances next season when we're playing on a Thursday and then a Sunday, so Harry wants as many players as possible. That's what we're trying to give him.

"That could also mean one or two who perhaps thought they would move on, might think again. They might want to stay now because there are going to be more opportunities to get into the side.

"We want a balance of English and foreign players at the club but let's not forget that we had three players in the England side a few weeks ago.

"Unfortunately the prices of UK players are much, much higher than European players and that's why clubs often look at the European market."
