Younes Kaboul will snub interest from Sunderland and Aston Villa to join Portsmouth, according to Harry Redknapp.

The Fratton Park boss is confident he has beaten his Premier League rivals to the signature of the Tottenham Hotspur defender.

Kaboul, 22, looked all set to link up with fellow Spurs men Teemu Tainio, Pascal Chimbonda and Steed Malbranque at Sunderland after boss Roy Keane agreed fees for all four.

But even though Keane is believed to have met with the French defender, who struggled to find his feet in England after his move to White Hart Lane from Auxerre, there was rival interest from Pompey and Aston Villa.

Great addition

Now Redknapp believes the FA Cup winners are in pole position and could finalise a deal reported to be worth around £3million in the next 48 hours.

He told the Daily Star: "Sunderland and Villa both made fantastic offers, but the lad decided he wanted to come to Portsmouth.

"Hopefully the deal will be completed over the weekend. Younes is a good, young player with bags of potential. He will be a great addition to the squad."
