Portsmouth captain Sol Campbell insists there is no reason to worry despite their opening day defeat to Chelsea.

Pompey were on the receiving end of a disappointing 4-0 crushing in their first game of the new campaign on Sunday.

They have a tough start to the season as their next game is against champions Manchester United on Monday but Campbell believes there is no need to panic just yet.

Christmas

"I don't think you can place too much emphasis on one game," Campbell told The News.

"I think you have to wait until Christmas and see where you are as a team then.

"There are a lot of teams who can do well this season.

"It depends how consistent we are to how well we do."

Signings

Campbell, does however, feel that Portsmouth's squad needs bolstering before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.

"We have to believe we can push on. We have to get it right and assemble a team now," he continued.

"With the squad we have to believe we can win a cup or go far in Europe. It's no good thinking we can't do it."
