Traore: Great potential

Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp has revealed there were six clubs trying to sign Arsenal full-back Armand Traore.

The teenage Frenchman has joined Pompey on a season-long loan in order to build up his first-team experience.

Redknapp is expecting big things from Traore and admits there was strong competition to land the 18-year-old.

"He's got great potential and I'm pleased Arsene Wenger has let him go out on loan," said Redknapp on Sky Sports News.

Great young talent

"There were six Premier League clubs yesterday morning trying to get the boy and they all went in for him.

"I think in the end, Arsene left it to the lad's decision and he wanted to come here, so I'm delighted to have him.

"He's a great young talent and he's come here to play. I want to see him play every week if possible and get him in the team."

Traore could make his debut in midfield against Manchester United on Monday, live on Sky Sports 1, due to concerns over Niko Kranjcar's fitness.

Kranjcar sore

"Niko has 'done' his ankle (against Slovenia on Wednesday) and I don't think he'll be fit," added Redknapp.

"Hopefully it won't be too long before he is, but it's swollen and it's sore.

"I would have no qualms about putting Traore in on Monday at all though. I wouldn't hesitate to put him in.

"He has trained with us and I brought him here to play. The kid is a terrific player."
