Kanu: On the comeback trail

The strikers did well last week at Everton, but I will let them know that the chief is back and ready to challenge them.

Kanu has warned Jermain Defoe and Peter Crouch that he is ready to reclaim his place in the Portsmouth team.

The Nigerian has not played for Pompey since scoring the decisive goal in their FA Cup final victory over Cardiff in May.

Crouch arrived at Fratton Park over the summer and has been paired with Defoe in all three Premier League games so far this season.

The partnership is expected to be successful and they started to link up impressively in the 3-0 win at Everton last weekend.

However, Kanu has now recovered from a dead leg and ankle problems and featured for the reserves against Fulham.

He is likely to be available for the clash with Middlesbrough after the international break and is looking forward to the challenge of trying to force his way back in.

Delighted

"I am on the comeback trail, I am feeling fine," Kanu told skysports.com.

"I am not at 100 per cent yet, but scoring last Monday was fantastic and I am delighted to play.

"I love to be on the field and now I have to try and get in the team.

"The strikers did well last week at Everton, but I will let them know that the chief is back and ready to challenge them.

"There is a good spirit in the camp and we are ready to write more good things in the Pompey sports book."
