Davis: Wants new deal

Sean Davis is keen to stay at Portsmouth but accepts that it is up to the club to decide on his future.

The midfielder, who was linked with a move to Celtic over the summer, has established himself as an important member of Harry Redknapp's side this season.

However, he has less than a year to run on his current contract and has yet to be offered a new deal.

Davis hopes to be rewarded for his loyal service but admits that his future is still uncertain.

"It's up to the club, really. I want to stay," David told The News.

Progress

"I asked for a contract last season and haven't heard back since.

"All I can do is get my head down and see what happens, but I want to play here.

"I had the chance to move to Celtic but wanted to stay in the Premier League and go on a journey with Portsmouth Football Club.

"Obviously, I came to the club when they were in a desperate situation. Now they have moved on. That's progress, and I want to move with the club as well.

"Portsmouth are going in the right direction - the owner's given good backing and hopefully we can go on a run.

"I don't want to go anywhere else but at the moment I have no idea where my future will be.

"The ball's in their court, it's always been in their court."

Chance

Davis is delighted to be playing regularly again for Portsmouth after biding his time on the substitutes' bench for much of last season.

He said: "As a footballer, all you can do is be professional, work hard and hopefully you'll get your chance later.

"I know it's hard when you're not playing, but I think the main quality of me is my character and never-give-in attitude.

"That's what you've got to do. No-one wants to play in the reserves, but if you do you might as well get something out of it and get your head down.

"I am just thankful that I'm now getting the chance."
