Portsmouth manager Tony Adams has reportedly turned his attention to former Arsenal team-mate Giles Grimandi in his search for an assistant.

Adams was knocked back by another former Arsenal team-mate when Martin Keown decided to continue his work as a pundit instead of joining forces with his old pal.

The 42-year-old was dealt a further blow when coach Joe Jordan left to join former Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp at Tottenham Hotspur.

This has made the ex-Arsenal captain even more desperate to find an assistant manager as he looks to fill the gaps in his coaching staff.

Adams has ruled out a move for Dennis Bergkamp which has left many thinking that Grimandi, who played with the Portsmouth manager at Highbury between 1997 and 2002 will soon be joining the ranks.

The Frenchman has remained friends with Adams since their Arsenal days and has even advised the former England captain in the past regarding his coaching career.

Adams said in The People: "I hope to get someone in this week. There are lots of options available to me. It is just about getting the right person for the football club."
