Portsmouth striker Peter Crouch recognises his international career would benefit if he was at a 'high-profile' club.

The England player left Premier League and UEFA Champions League contenders Liverpool in 2008 to move to Fratton Park and boost his opportunities of first-team football.

Crouch, who has been linked with a reunion with former Pompey boss Harry Redknapp at Tottenham, could feature in the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers against Kazakhstan on Saturday and Andorra on 10th June.

But the 28-year-old acknowledges he would be more likely to add to his 33 caps if he was playing at the top level with his club on a regular basis, which is a preference of international boss Fabio Capello.

Big games

"I think he would prefer me to be at a high-profile club playing every week. But that wasn't the case at the time," said the forward.

"He did tell me he would prefer me to be playing all the time. I felt I had to make a big decision really to play every week.

"Obviously at Liverpool we played more high-profile games in the Champions League.

"When I was at Liverpool I felt I'd get half the games I played this year but they were quite often big games.

"But I feel I made the right choice going to Portsmouth as I've played every Premier League game this year and I've enjoyed my football."
