Sky Sports News understands that Portsmouth have opened talks with Avram Grant about becoming their new boss.

Pompey are in the market for a new coach after parting company with Paul Hart on Tuesday.

Early reports suggested Grant had no intention of taking the reins at Fratton Park, as he was keen to remain in his director of football role at the club.

That situation has since changed, though, with the Israeli now considered to be a leading contender for the post.

He has been installed as the bookmakers' favourite to succeed Hart and is believed to already be in discussions with Portsmouth officials.

Grant has been out of coaching since leaving Chelsea in the summer of 2008, but can boast considerable management experience.
