Uefa insist Portsmouth have no right of appeal against the FA and Premier League's decision to block their application to play in Europe next season.

The FA and Premier League blocked Portsmouth's right to compete in the Europa League next season on Thursday despite reaching the FA Cup final because of their late application and financial problems.

Portsmouth administrator Andrew Andronikou indicated he planned to appeal to Uefa over the decision, but Europe's governing body have dashed their hopes of having the decision overturned.

Uefa spokesman Robert Faulkner told Sky Sports News: "Licencing regulations which we have had in place for a number of years now are very clear on this.

"Any club which wishes to play in our competitions has to get a licence which is issued through the national association or the club licence or in this case in their own country and in this case that's the FA and Premier League.

"And my understanding is that they have missed the deadline and the Premier League and FA have clearly said they are too late and they are not able to review or to issue them with a licence

"There is no proviso for any kind of appeal or direct request to Uefa to bypass the national licence law, in this case the FA and Premier League.

"I know Portsmouth have had a difficult season to say the very least, but unfortunately those are the regulations that we have for very good reasons, so that's the situation as it stands now."
