Nadir Belhadj admits he is honoured to be linked with Lazio, with the Italians revealing they are keen.

The versatile full-back is currently away on World Cup duty with Algeria, but is aware that his future at club level continues to attract attention.

Having suffered relegation out of the Premier League with Portsmouth in 2009/10, he is expected to be among those offloaded by the financially-troubled South Coast side.

There are no shortage of takers willing to snap up the African ace, with a long line of clubs reported to have expressed an interest.

Lazio are among those to have made their intentions public and Belhadj admits he would be more than happy to discuss a switch to Serie A.

"I heard from my agent about the interest of Lazio," he told Corriere dello Sport.

"For now there is nothing concrete, but the Italian league is one of the best. Being approached by Lazio is a great honour for me."

Lazio coach Edy Reja has revealed that he is preparing to step up his efforts to land Belhadj, with the Roman outfit keen to get fresh faces on board.

He told Radio Radio: "Belhadj is a great player who has huge potential, he plays well on the left, has great feet and a great shot.

"He's a player who is more offensive than defensive, and that appeals to us very much.

"He usually plays in defence, but the defence in the Premier League is very different to that in Italy.

"Belhadj is one of the players we are going to focus on and he has expressed a desire to come."
