Sunderland pair get pro deals

Young Sunderland pair Trevor Carson and Peter Hartley have both been rewarded with professional deals at the club.

The duo are the only members of The Black Cats' academy youngsters to be offered professional terms at The Stadium of Light after impressing sufficiently last season.

Defender Hartley has been with the club since 2000 while Carson, a goalkeeper, signed from Killyleagh Boys in 2004.

Carson is the third goalkeeper on the books at Sunderland for next term, alongside Kelvin Davis and Ben Alnwick, although local reports suggest the latter is thought to be keen to leave the club this summer.

Tottenham Hotspur have expressed an interest in Alnwick (pictured), who is thought to be unsettled in the North East, but no decision is expected about any player's future until a new manager is appointed.

Sunderland are likely to demand a substantial transfer fee for the 19-year-old having developed him into one of the best young goalkeepers in the country.
