Laudrup; Tough season

Getafe president Angel Torres would love his coach to rest players against Tottenham in the Uefa Cup this week in order to help the club's plight in the Spanish top flight.

The Madrid-based club have yet to win a domestic match this term as Michael Laudrup's new look side have failed to gel.

Torres is evidently concerned and has admitted that he would happily field a weakened team in Europe, despite it being the club's first ever campaign against continental opposition.

"If we beat Murcia then we can go to London feeling a bit calmer, but we do not have a set of reserves that we can use there," the president said.

"I support resting players to help us in the league."

Warning

Following their poor start in La Primera, Torres hit out at some players who he clearly believes are not fully focussed on the club's cause.

"There are players here who are thinking about the next European Championship, maybe because for some it could be their first appearance," he continued.

"But anyone who wants to go to the European Championship has to play for Getafe first.

"We have to dig deep and I hope the players can respond. What is hurting us is the defence because of the injuries we have, but everyone just has to battle on."
