Poyet: Thrilled with Berbatov
Tottenham assistant manager Gus Poyet paid tribute to Dimitar Berbatov after his four goals in the 6-4 win over Reading.
The Bulgarian was on top form as he fired Spurs to victory, although Poyet accepts that his achievement is only likely to increase speculation of a move away in the January transfer window.
Poyet is confident Berbatov will stay and continue to produce displays 'that only he is capable of'.
"He was different class," Poyet told Sky Sports. "I cannot think of another player who can do what he does every week.
"We do expect him to score four every week but he is capable of doing anything on the pitch.
"To score four two days before the window opens I am sure there are going to be even more rumours from now on, but I'm just looking forward to him staying for the rest of the season."
Poyet concedes that Berbatov's performance should not be allowed to gloss over Tottenham's defensive inadequacies.
However, Poyet insists the three points were all important as Tottenham followed up their victory over Fulham on Boxing Day.
"We have to put it (the defence) right as soon as possible. We need to make sure we do not need to score six every game," said Poyet.
"We have to be solid because the quality in front of goal is there.
"It was a fantastic game for the supporters, very entertaining, but it was not a good game for the managers.
"But we got the three points and we said before the game against Fulham that we needed to win these two games."
