Aaron Lennon is back in pre-season training at Tottenham and desperate for a return to competitive action.

The Spurs winger is excited by the prospect of playing alongside the club's new signings, Luka Modric and Giovani dos Santos, and expects Juande Ramos' men to be challenging towards the top of the Premier League table next year.

The England international is also delighted at the mood within the White Hart Lane camp and believes that there is an air of expectancy among the players.

Break

"It has been good to have a break but now I'm back and feeling fresh and it's great to see the lads in training after a long time off," Lennon told the club's official website.

"It seems as though everyone has looked after themselves over the summer. We all knew that we'd be in for a hard pre-season, but everyone's up for it and looking forward to the coming campaign.

"We're all excited about the new season and it's also good to see new faces joining the club as well. It's a really strong squad and everyone's buzzing."

Endurance

Spurs head to Spain next week as they look to step-up their preparations for the new season, and Lennon accepts that training in the Mediterranean heat will help to ensure that the squad are in the best possible condition heading into an opening day contest with Middlesbrough on 16th August.

"Now we go to Spain and that will be a real test of our endurance because the climate will be hotter," he said.

"It won't be easy but we're all up for the challenge."
