Teemu Tainio has joined Pascal Chimbonda in taking a medical at Sunderland as Roy Keane closes on the Tottenham pair.

Skysports.com broke news of Chimbonda's medical on Wednesday morning and now he has been joined by team-mate Tainio.

Sunderland have had an ambitious £23million bid accepted by Spurs, with Steed Malbranque and Younes Kaboul also having engaged in discussions with the North East club.

The latter pair have yet to confirm whether they will be quitting White Hart Lane, with Kaboul having also attracted the attention of Portsmouth and Aston Villa.

Both Tainio and Chimbonda are believed to have been won over by Keane, but the club's supporters must wait to discover whether the Irishman will prove equally persuasive on Malbranque and Kaboul.
