Woodgate: Backing Bentley signing

Tottenham defender Jonathan Woodgate believes David Bentley's acquisition from Blackburn will be a great addition to the club.

Spurs have been busier than more this summer with the likes of Bentley, Luka Modric and Giovani dos Santos arriving while Robbie Keane has departed for Liverpool.

The White Hart Lane outfit used a large slice of Keane's transfer fund to bring in Bentley and former Newcastle man Woodgate believes it is money well spent.

"David will be a top player for us. He's a great player and he's a good lad," he told Sky Sports News.

"He's English which makes it even better for the Spurs fans as well.

Talent

"We've got a lot of talent. Our midfield is packed full of talent, but the signing of Bentley's been brilliant for us.

"Luka, Giovani and Jenas, we've got a great midfield."

Many Spurs fans were disappointed to see Keane depart for The Reds this summer, but Woodgate is sure the club will be looking to replace the Republic of Ireland international.

"I'm sure we'll get someone in to replace Robbie. They are big shoes to fill," he continued.

"I'm sure with the club they got for him it's a good deal for the club as well. Hopefully we can replace him

"He's a top player and will be a good signing for Liverpool."

Spurs have been linked with the likes of David Villa and Andrei Arshavin and Woodgate believes the pair are of the quality the club should be targeting: "Hopefully we can get some of those players in."
