Pavlyuchenko: Relishing challenge

Roman Pavlyuchenko has admitted that Juande Ramos played a key role in bringing him to Tottenham.

Pavlyuchenko finally sealed a move to White Hart Lane from Spartak Moscow on transfer deadline day.

The Russian striker had stated just a week earlier that he would not be able to join due to concerns over how his family would adjust to life in a different country.

However, Pavlyuchenko has now explained that the club have been able to help, while he was also convinced to come after speaking with Ramos.

"I was worried about the difficulties that the move would have for my family," the 26-year-old told Sport Express.

"The club have already found a woman who can help with the move.

"A telephone call from Tottenham head coach Juande Ramos played the decisive role.

"When he called and said that he was interested, I understood that you shouldn't just dismiss such care and attention. And my wife also said that if the coach called, I should go."

Hero hope

Pavlyuchenko is hoping to make a big impact for his new club and could make his debut in the home game against Aston Villa after the international break.

He is also looking forward to the clash with fierce rivals Arsenal in October.

He said: "After just two days my ears were ringing with the most important thing - derby number one for my new club is the game against Arsenal.

"Much like Spartak Moscow against CSKA Moscow, the fans all want a victory over the Gunners.

"They told me 'score against Arsenal and you will immediately gain hero status'."
