Poyet - Berba not to blame

Gus Poyet is refusing to blame Dimitar Berbatov for Tottenham's woeful start to the season.

According to Terry Venables, the unrest caused by the popular Bulgaria international's departure has played a massive role in their sub-standard results.

However, Poyet does not want to dwell on the former player, who is now at Manchester United, and believes their current crop of stars need to take accountability for their performances.

"I think it's too easy to blame one person, so here we are all in the same situation and especially the players that are here," he told Sky Sports News.

"I don't see how it's possible to blame someone who isn't at Tottenham."

Outside opinion

With Darren Bent and Roman Pavlyuchenko's partnership yet to ignite, it has been suggested Fraizer Campbell should be given a chance up front.

But Poyet believes it is easy for people from outside the club to make suggestions when they do not know what they are talking about.

"All the coaches and managers have an opinion about who should play. They should be in this position," he continued.

"Making decisions is easy from the outside."

Meanwhile, Poyet believes the treatment from Spurs fans towards Portsmouth star Sol Campbell was out of order, although he does not want the incident blown out of proportion.

The former White Hart Lane favourite came under fire from Spurs' visiting fans at Fratton Park last weekend, being the subject of unsavoury chants.

"I think it's not nice," he continued. "We should be enjoying everything. Let's not go the other way and make things bigger.

"Sol doesn't deserve what happened the other day, but let's not make it any bigger because it's not worth it."
