King: Staying positive

Ledley King believes it is time for Spurs' players to show their credentials - and insists the gap to the top four is still bridgeable.

His comments come as Spurs sit at the bottom of the Premier League, having endured their worst start to a season in 53 years.

The club have failed to win in six games in the top flight but are hoping to break their duck when they take on Hull at White Hart Lane on Sunday.

And - while the top echelons of the league may seem a dizzy way away at present - King remains ambitious to the potential at the club.

Pressure

The Spurs skipper told the Sunday Express: "There is pressure in football all the time, but the players are experienced enough and we are confident enough in our own ability to believe that we can win (against Hull).

"There's been a lot of expectation on us in the last couple of years. I suppose it started last season when we were talked of as a possible top-four side, but after the start we made it never looked like happening.

"That's why we can't allow the same thing to happen this season. We have got to go out there and show our credentials. As players, we know what we can achieve.

"We haven't broken into the top four and that's something we believe we can do and something we're hoping to do.

"I don't think the gap between the top four and ourselves has got any bigger. It was only two seasons ago that we went into the last game of the campaign still in the running for fourth.

Consistency

"What sets the top four apart is their consistency and that's something we have to strive for.

"We have the quality of players to do that and it's now about the mentality and belief, which I believe we have."

Spurs are still trying to gel after losing hot-shots Robbie Keane and Dimitar Berbatov over the summer, while boss Juande Ramos spent nearly £70 million on new recruits.

King added: "All our new players are important additions to the squad and I'm sure we'll see them at their best sooner rather than later."
