Hoddle: Tottenham fears

Glenn Hoddle fears Tottenham will be unable to recover from their woeful start to the new campaign and be locked in a relegation scrap.

Spurs are rock bottom of the Premier League after making their worst league start since 1912, taking just two points from their opening seven games.

Many expected Juande Ramos' men to push for UEFA Champions League qualification this season after winning the Carling Cup last term and splashing out over £60million in the summer.

The new signings are yet to make their mark, though, and Hoddle has questioned if they have the stomach for the fight as Spurs aim to drag themselves out of trouble.

"I'm surprised and disappointed," the former Spurs player and manager told Sky Sports News.

"They've gone and spent again this year and your expectations as a Spurs man are that, after winning the League Cup, they'd build on that.

"My personal opinion is that they've bought some very good players but I think only if they're in the top six and the crowd are behind them will you see the very best of the players that they've bought.

"My concern as a Spurs man is whether they've got the battling qualities to get out of the position they find themselves in."
