Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has spoken of his excitement over the club's proposed move to a new stadium.

Spurs confirmed at the end of last month that they intended to build a 60,000-capacity ground near their current White Hart Lane home.

The planning process is likely to begin next year and Levy believes the new stadium will benefit the club.

"We have always wanted to stay in the borough of Haringey, as near to the stadium as we possibly could," Levy told Sky Sports News.

Iconic

"We had a duty to look at other sites but we are very pleased that we have now made the decision to stay here.

"My brief to the architects has been very clear. We wanted an iconic stadium and a stadium that is full of atmosphere.

"We want a stadium that all Tottenham fans will be proud of."

Tottenham kept up their fine form with a thrilling 4-2 victory over Liverpool on Wednesday to advance to the quarter-finals of the Carling Cup.

Smile

They have also climbed out of the bottom three in recent weeks and remain unbeaten under new boss Harry Redknapp.

Levy added: "Things have certainly improved and I have a smile on my face.

"It is always difficult as a chairman but we are delighted with the progress the team has made under Harry."
